I used to visit my boyfriend Adam on weekends in San Francisco at his Cole street apartment. We frequently ended up at the Other Cafe, at the corner of Carl and Cole, which hosted rotating appearances of soon-to-be famous comedians such as Dana Carvey, Paula Poundstone, Robin Williams, and Will Durst. One night, Paula Poundstone led the whole 100-person café in a tribute to her as she was carried around the audience on a guy’s shoulder as a self-proclaimed Sun Goddess, she of dark hair and seriously cynical perspective. She was so out there, and she made me laugh. I’m so glad she got to be famous.
best,
Carolyn
